CHENNAI: The Election Commission on Saturday appointed three observers from Gujarat and Utharakhand to monitor the by-election process in Sankarankoil on March 18.P Narasimha Rao, IC and ES, Deputy Commissioner, Customs (BREV), Jamnagar, Gujarat, will be the expenditure observer (mobile nos 099249 56758 and 94890 51191). Ramesh Kumar Suthanshu, IAS, Commissioner, Re-organisation and Additional Secretary, Re-organisation, Government of Utharakhand, will be the general observor (mobile no 078300 10777). VJ Goutham, IPS, DIG of Police, Baroda, Gujarat, (Mobile No 098792 00732) is the third observer.While Narasimha Rao is already in the constituency, Ramesh Kumar Suthanshu and Goutham will be arriving on February 28, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said in a release here.EC teams seize over `6 lakh The teams formed by the Election Commission for checking money power in the Sankarankovil constituency, where a by-election is schedueld for March 18, have so far seized unaccounted money of `6,27,360 at different places and referred the cases to the Income Tax Department. Cases have been registered in the respective police stations and are under investigation.On February 23, the Static Surveillance team seized `2,89,960 in Chinnakoilankulam police station limit.The next day, the team seized `1,04,000 in Karivalamvanthanallur police station limit. On the same day, the team also seized `2,33,400 in Sankarankoil police limit, Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said in a release here.
