BHUBANESWAR: A teenager was allegedly gangraped here in a moving vehicle, a crime which has shocked the police.The incident was reminiscent of a similar crime which took place in Delhi a few months ago. Incidentally, the two perpetrators were acquaintances of the victim and had offered her a lift when she was waiting for a City bus near the Station Square.After the victim and her sister lodged a complaint with Mahila Police Station on Monday, the two accused were picked up by the police. They are being questioned.The girl, who had just cleared her Plus-Two examination, has been sent for medical examination. The vehicle allegedly used in the crime has been subjected to forensic test.The incident, sources said, took place on Friday and came to light only on Monday when the victim mustered enough courage to lodge the complaint.According to the FIR, the girl, waiting for the bus, was spotted by the two accused, one of whom is a close friend of the victim’s brother-in-law. When he offered to drop her home, she had no reason to suspect his intention.However, once she got inside the vehicle, the two allegedly raped her in turns. The victim, in her FIR, stated that she raised an alarm and resisted their attempt by hitting the window panes of the vehicle, but no one noticed. The incident allegedly occurred about 10 minutes after she got into the vehicle at about 5 pm.The girl was reportedly dropped off near Phulnakhara an hour and half later. The two men threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.The nature of the crime has left the police shocked. Contacted, Police Commissioner Bijay Kumar Sharma said the two, named in the FIR, were picked up soon after the complaint was lodged.Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh said police are waiting for the medical and forensic examination reports.
