Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 has been grabbing headlines ever since the teaser was dropped. It was also recently reported that Anil Thadani has acquired the North India Distribution rights for the highly anticipated Sukumar-directed movie, Pushpa 2, for a staggering Rs 200 crore in advance, setting a new record. The film, starring Allu Arjun, has captivated audiences with its popularity, sparking unprecedented demand across various platforms like satellite, digital, and distribution, leading to the establishment of new benchmarks in the industry.
Sources divulged that Netflix secured the digital rights for Pushpa 2: The Rule for an incredible base price of Rs 250 crore, potentially reaching Rs 300 crore, marking a groundbreaking deal across all languages. A source told the entertainment portal PinkVilla, “It’s a record deal for all languages, surpassing the previous best by a margin of approx. Rs 100 crore. Pushpa 2 is among the genuinely awaited Pan India films after Bahubali 2 and KGF 2, and all the stakeholders are confident to spike excitement on their respective platforms for the content.”
Additionally, insiders revealed that the agreement includes provisions tied to the film’s box office performance, indicating a shift towards setting base prices with the potential for escalation based on theatrical returns. For Pushpa 2, the base digital rights price stands at Rs 250 crore, with potential bonuses driving the total up to Rs 300 crore, surpassing the previous record holder, RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli, which sold its digital rights for Rs 170 crore. The source shared, “The newer ways of dealing is to set a base price and then hike it linked to box office returns. The base price for the Allu Arjun film is Rs 250 crore, with kickers extending up to Rs 300 crore.”
Scheduled for release on August 15, 2024, Pushpa 2, helmed by Sukumar, unveiled a glimpse of Allu Arjun in the titular role, with further promotional assets expected in the coming months. The first installment of Pushpa made Rs 125 crore in the Hindi market during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, raising expectations for the sequel to rewrite box office history.
Featuring a musical score by DSP, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in pivotal roles, Pushpa 2 is currently in production, with filming slated for completion by the end of May.
