Maharashtra lockdown: While Mumbai and its suburbs will all be divided into different levels according to Covid cases, the remaining 34 districts will be treated as separate administrative units.

Maharashtra has decided to relax lockdown restriction on the basis of Covid positivity rate and availability of oxygen beds in Maharashtra. In a late night order, the state government said it will implement the new five-level eased curbs from Monday. This comes a day after Uddhav Thackeray’s office took a U-turn on unlock plan announced by earlier by minister Vijay Wadettiwar.

According to the order, the cities and districts have been divided into five levels. Those districts and cities that will be put in level 1 (with less than 5% weekly positivity rate and less than 25% occupancy rate of oxygen beds) will be free of all restrictions.

This means, all shops, restaurants, malls, theatres, public places, private offices, sports, shooting gatherings, marriages, funerals can restart in level 1 areas from Monday.

Cities and districts with up to five per cent positivity rate and 25-40% occupancy rate will be incorporated in level 2 of the plan, 5% to 10% positivity rate and 40-60% occupancy will come under level 3, 10-20% positivity rate and 60-75% occupancy rate areas will come under level 4 and areas having a positivity rate of 20% and above and occupancy rate above 75% will not see any relaxation.

In level 2, shops, both essential and non-essential, can open regularly, while malls and theatres and reopen with 50% capacity. However, in level 3, shops selling essential items can open till 4pm on all days, non-essential shops will only function on weekdays with same timings. Malls and theatres in this level will remain shut. The shop owners and those out on shopping should reach their homes by 5pm, post which action would be taken, the order stated.

Offices in level 1 and 2 have been allowed to open with 10% capacity, while it will function with 50% capacity in level 3, 25% in level 4 and 15% in level 5. Wedding ceremonies in level 1 can take place without restrictions, while in level 2 it will be allowed with 50% occupancy of the hall and not more than 100 guests, 50 people will be permitted in level 3, 25 people in level 4 and only family members in level 5.
