As a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan, nurses in the neonatal unit of a hospital were seen holding on to the babies’ cribs until the tremors subsided. A video that is being widely shared on the internet captured the nurses’ quick action and presence of mind as they ran to hold the cots of the newborns to protect them.
As per the CCTV footage recorded at the time of the earthquake, four staff members of the hospital were seen protecting the newborn babies. In the video, the members of staff in the maternity unit can be seen scrambling to keep the cots still, as the building they were in began to shake.

A similar incident was witnessed in February 2023 when an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit Turkey. The video, shared by Turkish Health Minister Dr Fahrettin Koca, showed two nurses rushing to hold onto incubators to prevent them from tipping over or sliding during the devastating earthquake.

Meanwhile, soon after the quake hit Taiwan, the micro-blogging platform was full of videos and images from around the island shared by people who experienced the strongest earthquake faced by Taiwan in two decades.
A series of videos showed how commuters managed the situation after heavy stones from mountains started falling on roads during the earthquake.
In another clip, a man was seen trapped inside a rooftop swimming pool as the water swirls violently due to the earthquake.
At least nine people were killed and thousands injured on Wednesday after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit Taiwan and damaged dozens of buildings. The quake, so high in magnitude, also prompted tsunami warnings that extended to Japan and the Philippines.
