Trump Says Harris’ Ex Told Him ‘Terrible Things’ About Her During A Helicopter Ride, He Says He Never Flew With Ex-President
Donald Trump's claim was refuted by Kamala Harris’ ex and sparked a new debate regarding his memory.

Willie Brown, the former speaker of the California State Assembly who dated US Vice President Kamala Harris in the 1990s, this week refuted Donald Trump’s claims that he had a conversation about his relationship with the US presidential contender in a chopper ride with him.

His dismissal of Donald Trump’s statements has sparked a debate regarding the former US president and Harris’ rival’s memory – an issue Trump raised regarding Joe Biden when the US President was still in the White House race.

“I went down in a helicopter with him. We thought maybe this is the end. … So I know him pretty well. I mean, I haven’t seen him in years. But he told me terrible things about her,” Trump said referencing Harris, according to a report by Axios.

Trump was speaking about experiencing a brush with death on a helicopter ride with reporters on Thursday when he made those comments.

Brown, 90, who was mayor of San Francisco, told the New York Times that he has never flown in a helicopter with Trump and that ‘he had not denigrated Harris’ while speaking to the former president because he ‘admires and respects her’.

“Those are the two things I am certain of,” he said.

This also led to a separate debate about Donald Trump’s memory and speculations that he may have mixed the identities of two Black American politicians.

The debate arose when Nate Holden, 95, a former Los Angeles city councilman and state senator, said it was he who was with Donald Trump on that helicopter ride.

After the news of Trump’s claims spread, Holden called up Brown to compare notes.

“I said, ‘Willie, you know what? That’s me!’” Holden was quoted as saying by the New York Times.

“And I told him, ‘You’re a short Black guy and I’m a tall Black guy — but we all look alike, right?’”

Holden said he is 6-foot-1. “Willie has to be about 5-foot-6. Maybe 5-foot-5. He comes up to about my shoulders. And he’s bald. And I’m not bald,” he said while speaking to the newspaper.

“I just think he makes things up. That’s what I think. He never thought anybody’s going to check,” Holden added.

Holden’s story was backed up by former Trump executive Barbara Res, who wrote about it in her 2013 book, according to a separate report by Politico.

Donald Trump doubled down on his claim on Friday and insisted that it was Brown who was inside the helicopter.

“It was Willie Brown. But now Willie doesn’t remember?” Trump said. He also has flight records to prove his claim and is “probably going to sue” the New York Times over the article.
