Vijay Varma’s highly anticipated crime thriller series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack premiered on Netflix on August 29, 2024. Directed by Anubhav Sinha and written by Adrian Levy and Trishant Srivastava, this gripping mini-series explores the harrowing hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814 in 1999. To celebrate the release of the series, Reema Sengupta, the internationally acclaimed writer and director, shared an exclusive series of candid photos from a lively watch party on her Instagram handle. The image captures Vijay and other guests enjoying the event, with a special appearance by Tamannaah Bhatia, who is dating Vijay. In one of the standout photos, Vijay is seen holding popcorn bags with the images of the series.
The post also includes a playful video that begins with Vijay explaining to someone the significance of Squawk 7500, a transponder code used to indicate an aircraft in distress or hijacking. As the video transitions from serious to light-hearted, someone asks, “Sir, aapka plane hijack hui, aapne or kuch kiya kyu nahi? (Sir, your plane was hijacked. Why didn’t you do anything else?).” With a wide grin, Vijay simply points to the beer bottle in his hand. Another photo from the post showcases Vijay and Tamannaah sharing joyful smiles in a group selfie.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack not only stars Vijay but also features a stellar cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Dia Mirza and Arvind Swamy. It is adapted from Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury’s book Flight Into Fear.
Meanwhile, Vijay is set to appear in the upcoming romantic drama, Ul Jalool Ishq, directed by Vibhu Puri and produced by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra. The series will also feature Fatima Sana Shaikh, Naseeruddin Shah and Sharib Hashmi.
Varma’s other project includes Matka King, a series exploring the real-life Matka gambling phenomenon that swept through India from the 1960s to the 1990s. In this highly-anticipated series, Vijay will portray an ambitious cotton trader who invents the game ‘Matka’, revolutionizing Mumbai’s gambling scene. It will be released on Prime Video.
On the other hand, Tamannaah made a special appearance in the action-drama film, Vedaa, starring John Abraham in the lead role. She has reportedly been cast as the lead in Neeraj Pandey’s next untitled film.
