UK Couple, Cleaning Their Bathroom, Discovers 700-year-old Relic
The medieval relic appears to be the face of the Lincoln Imp- a famous carving on the Lincoln Cathedral, situated near the couple's house.

A couple, scrubbing their toilet, discovered a trapdoor concealing a possible medieval relic. Tracy and Rory Vorster from Lincoln, England were shocked to find an artefact which is expected to have been 700 years old. According to the Lincoln Civil Trust, the strange carved face on the recently discovered medieval gargoyle could be part of an elaborate drain or early urinal dating back to the mid-14th century.

Living in the heart of Lincoln Cathedral, Rory Vorster now believes that his house might have more such artefacts waiting to be found. The photos of the medieval relic are now making rounds on the internet. It was sculpted on the floor of the bathroom behind a wooden trapdoor.

On Sunday, April 14, the couple were scrubbing the bathroom of their house when Vorster first made the discovery. He couldn’t believe his eyes. “I shouted up to my wife and said, I’ve found a thing," said Vorster as reported by Daily Mail. After removing the wooden panel, the couple discovered a slab of stone featuring a carving of an unorthodox face. The face appears to be of Lincoln Imp- a famous carving on the Lincoln Cathedral, situated near their house. It all starts making sense as the Cathedral’s College of Priests originally built the couple’s home.

According to a local legend, this medieval relic came into existence after two imps were seen rampaging on the Cathedral roof before one was turned to stone by an angel. Citing the rich cathedral history of Lincoln, Mrs Vorster was amazed to discover the historic artefact in her house. “You look at the outside of the house and that is historical enough but to now find something inside is amazing" said Tracy Vorster. The couple is sure to find more of these relics in their house.

“The whole of the house has kind of a hollow walling, so we immediately thought there could be more. We’re almost certain now," added Tracy. The photos of the mediaeval relic have gone viral.

As per reports, the couple considers this sudden discovery as a treasure. They have decided to decorate it and show it to their guest and visitors.
